July '26: A July on the quiet side

Hey Care Plan Clients,

Shayna here with a shorter-than-usual issue as we wrap up the dog days of July. I'm spending sweet time with visiting family through the end of the month, so this issue is intentionally light.

From here in Spain, it's been a joy to celebrate. Congratulations to La Roja, the fútbol team, on the World Cup win on July 20.

(And, I must say, it was a trip to watch games set in Dallas with my aunt and uncle, visiting from Dallas!)

Our August issue will lean into accessibility, including a look at some of the accessibility work quietly happening across our client sites.

Service update

Welcoming Fractracker to the Maple Family

This month we officially migrated FracTracker's site over to Pressable, and it is now running under our care. FracTracker's mapping and data work on the impacts of oil and gas is exactly the kind of public-interest, research-driven organization Maple exists to support. Glad to have them home.

A quiet Milestone

On July 1, we wrapped a full accessibility overhaul on the People Over Petro Coalition site. More on that, and what accessibility actually means in practice, in the August issue. For now you can check out their new Enabled Guide to Disaster Response.

Maintenance and vigilance

One big catch this month: wp2shell. In mid-July, WordPress core patched a critical, unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability. It is called wp2shell, and it is the first of its kind in WordPress core in nearly a decade. You do not need to do anything.

Every Maple care plan site is running the latest patched, secure version of WordPress. Mark verifies this across the portfolio as part of our monthly QA pass. With your care plan, we get you patched before you have to think about it.

If you're curious about the technical background, Wordfence has a solid write-up: wp2shell Aftermath.

That's it for July.

Thanks for reading and for trusting us with your site. See you in August.

P.S. Hope you’ve enjoyed some family vacay photos, postcard-style, from La Costa Del Sol.

Take Care (with a capital “C”),

Shayna (& the Maple team)
